On Our Radar: Something Savory

December 6, 2006| Denyce Neilson

Nevis native John Levins is a character; he is loud, funny and as colorful as the Caribbean island from which he hails. He is also an inventive and very gifted chef. After spending years at Green Street Grill in Cambridge, turning it into a Mecca for foodies, he and his partner Jodi Auerbach opened Something Savory—a gem hidden in the tree-lined burbs of Arlington. It’s a real neighborhood place with lots of regulars, which is not surprising. Levins’ cuisine is described as eclectic American with a French Caribbean twist, translation: unfreakinbelievable, unusually tasty food at a reasonable price! With authentic dishes such as curried goat, Caribbean fungi, spicy pepper pot stew, and their ever-popular Cuban sandwich, Something Savory makes eating an exciting, adventurous, and delicious experience. They offer eat-in, take-out, and full-service catering. Even if you don’t live in Arlington, it’s well-worth the quick trip up Mass Ave. If you’re really feeling adventurous, ride your bike up the Minuteman Bikeway and jump off at Park Avenue.
